The seafood platter is another crowd-pleaser that brings a taste of the ocean straight to the Lake District.
A standout feature is the dessert menu, particularly the homemade sticky toffee pudding and the delightful Eton mess, which often garners rave reviews. Many appreciate the diverse wine list, expertly curated to complement the dishes beautifully. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, some diners mention the necessity of making reservations, especially during peak season. This can be inconvenient for those looking for a quiet last-minute meal. Some customers express a desire for more vegetarian options on the menu, seeking greater variety beyond the current offerings. Accessibility, while considered good, could improve with more designated parking spaces for wheelchair users.
As with many popular dining spots, peak times may mean slightly longer waits for food, although most agree that the quality justifies the wait. A few patrons have noted that at times, the lively ambiance can lead to increased noise levels, potentially detracting from the intimate dining experience.
Definitely picked the right spot for evening meal. Made to feel welcome the moment we entered, sat outside as beautiful evening. Starters leek and potato soup and cod and prawns, both very tasty and well presented. The main of duck was sublime, fell off the bone and sauce was rich and very flavoursome. Lady at the start gave a great description of menu and owner was good crack and polite. Lovely meal
We dined here with friends this evening for my husbands birthday we have been coming to Jackson's over the years and this was maybe our 6/7th visit. It has been the same owner in the 15 years we have lived in Cumbria & he's a lovely man and always runs a great service. The food was exceptional as usual and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed all 3 courses. I wasn't drinking but they had a great selection of red wines and beers. We all had different starters the stuffed mushroom, the crab, the cod and the french onion crumpet all delicious we all cleaned our plates. Onto the mains 2 of us had the beef bourgeon delicious, one had the duck (just melted off the bone) and my friend has the saltimbocca. The it was plenty to choose from and the deserts were equally lovely we opted to share a desert platter so we got to try a bit of everything - my favourite was the sticky toffee pudding and the Eton mess yummy! Service was outstanding. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put in at a time when all independent restaurants Are struggling If you are in Bowness or Windermere this is the best restaurant by far! Absolutely gorgeous meal tonight, chose from the 2 course set menu but there were endless options. Wish we’d discovered this restaurant earlier in the week so we could have returned. Service was exceptional and very friendly. Next time we’re in bowness it will be our first choice destination.
Ok. This is the first time I write a long review. I had the lamb. Local, unique and extremely delicious. The hint of mint aroma is marvellous. My wife had the burger. She usually eats only half but this time she finished it because she couldn’t stop. My older son had a steak medium cooked juicy and delicious. My youngest had the chicken nuggets and he liked it. Now the brownie just came to the table and I am sorry I’ll not review it because I wanna consume the brownie hot and the ice cream cold.
Jackson’s Bistro fitted us in as a last minute booking and it was delightful from start to finish. Food of very high quality and taste, a unique menu which is a nice change from all the standard restaurants. Staff very kind, professional and chatty. Unbelievable value for money. Would 100% recommend and will be retuning.
A true gem in Windermere. Jackson’s Bistro offers the perfect dining experience — from the warm welcome to the final course. The food is simply wonderful: beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly made with passion and quality ingredients. The service was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which added to the relaxed yet refined atmosphere of the place. What really stood out was the attention to detail, both in the menu and the presentation. A huge thank you to Andrew and the team for making our (2 visits) so enjoyable. And for the help with our specific requirements due to my husband’s mobility issues. If you’re in Windermere, this is an absolute must-visit. It came highly recommended to us and it’s my pleasure to recommend it to you.
Nice food and service good menu choices and fixed 2 and 3 courses menu.
Don't miss the U.K. Rib-Eye Steak and the Local Beef Bourguinonne. For something lighter, the Cod Loin never disappoints. Make sure to save room for the Homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding or the choice of English Lakes Ice Cream.
